Cape Cares – Making a Difference

Cape Cares is a program whose mission is to make a positive, tangible difference in the lives of those within our community. Through volunteerism, employee activism, fundraising and spearheading donation drives, our members strive to become the most successful corporate volunteer program in both Atlantic and Cape May Counties. Our success is measured not only in donations and volunteer hours, but in camaraderie and enthusiasm.

We have a fun and exciting list of events in which we participate each year. To date we have participated in several events, including New Jersey Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake, the MAPS Foundation Walk-A-Thon, the March of Dimes Walk, and the Multiple Sclerosis Walk.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a program that helps children in our area by providing them with mentors. The Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser was held at three bowling alleys in our area: Strike Zone in Egg Harbor City, Wildwood Bowl in Wildwood, and DiDonato’s in Hammonton. This year, Cape Cares provided bowling teams for all three locations and held an employee fundraiser. We are proud to announce that we were able to raise more than $3,300.00!

The MAPS Foundation of South Jersey, Inc. is a grassroots organization that buys medical equipment and supplies for local individuals afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Parkinson’s Disease. On April 19th, the Cape Cares Team raised more than $500.00 for the MAPS Foundation Walk-a-Thon on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

The March of Dimes is a national organization dedicated to helping prevent premature birth and creating healthy homes and lives for babies everywhere. Cape Bank participated in National Blue Jeans for Babies Day and held other employee fundraisers. On Sunday, April 26th, the Cape Cares Team walked on the Ocean City Boardwalk, raising more than $2,850.00.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to helping find a cure and promote prevention for Multiple Sclerosis. This year, Cape Cares walkers raised more than $1,000 by participating in the May 3rd walk on the Ocean City Boardwalk.

This year, Cape Cares is proud and excited to announce a new program, Changing the Course for Good. Our focus is helping people in our community by making a positive, tangible difference through employee donation drives. In June 2009, Cape Bank will hold its first Changing the Course Day for employees. We will be collecting donations for several organizations: Salvation Army, Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Atlantic County Women’s Center, Animal Outreach of Cape May County, Coalition Against Rape and Abuse, and the Community Food Bank of South Jersey.

We look forward to telling you about our success with this new program. Special thanks to all of our employees for their hard work and generous hearts; they make it possible for Cape Bank and Cape Cares to change the course for the good of those who need it most.
